A 70-year-old Verona woman was killed Tuesday morning when her vehicle veered into opposing traffic on Allegheny River Boulevard, according to Allegheny County Police.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Dorothy (Jill) Demko of Verona.

Police said Demko’s Ford EcoSport crossed the center line and struck a Jeep Cherokee. Allegheny County 911 confirmed a collision around 8:15 a.m. in the 200 block of the roadway, near the Giant Eagle.

Emergency responders found her dead at the scene, county police said.

The other driver, a 55-year-old woman, was uninjured, police said.

Emergency responders from Penn Hills, where the crash occurred, and Verona were on the scene, according to Verona Borough Manager Stefanie Woolford.

Neither Penn Hills nor Verona police could be reached for comment.

Allegheny River Boulevard between Wildwood Avenue and Sandy Creek Road remained closed to traffic until about 12:30 p.m., according to Woolford.
