Darcie Gatti will become the new principal at Mother of Sorrows School in Murrysville.

Gatti is a former associate and head principal in the Penn Hills School District, where she has worked since 2008. Prior to that, she worked both roles in the Mt. Pleasant School District. She began her education career as a biology teacher.

“During her career as an associate elementary school principal, former middle school associate principal, and high school principal, Mrs. Gatti brings a wealth of curricular expertise as a former classroom teacher and administrator,” said Nancy Rottler, superintendent of schools for the Greensburg Catholic diocese. “I am delighted that through her extensive administrative experience, she will carry on the tradition of excellence.”

Gatti earned her bachelor’s degree from Mercyhurst University, and her master’s degree at the former California University of Pennsylvania.

“My goal is to communicate with staff and the community on a continuous basis,” Gatti said. “Supporting school activities and events, building relationships with the families, students, and staff enhances communication so that we can continue to build upon the wonderful, positive school culture and climate at Mother of Sorrows Catholic School.”

Gatti will take the place of longtime principal Theresa Szmed, who became principal at Greensburg Central Catholic Junior-Senior High School earlier this year.

During Szmed’s time at Mother of Sorrows, the school’s enrollment increased by 30%, according to Rottler.
