Orlando Gannon was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Gannon was initiated at University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.

Elianna Seaman gave a poster presentation titled The Effects of Yoga-Based Intervention on Heart Rate Variability and Perceived Stress in Collegiate Athletes, during the University of Mount Union’s 17th annual SCHOLAR Day on April 23.

Autumn Bulebush-Clouse, a senior dance major at Slippery Rock University, was a choreographer for the April 28 dance showcase, “Through It All: A BFA Dance Concert.”

Sewickley Academy Senior School students Albert Dong and Marcus Zhan were named winners of the 2024 Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Artists Auditions. Each will perform in a recital in Kresge Hall at Carnegie Mellon University, in addition to receiving an Anna and Benjamin Perlow Scholarship to help further their musical education.

Sewickley Academy Senior School student Sebastian Tan was named a 2024 Bank of America Student Leader. As a Student Leader, he will participate in an eight-week paid internship at a local non-profit this summer. During the internship, he will learn valuable civic, social, and business leadership skills and the critical role nonprofits play in our communities.

Hallie Dong, a junior at Sewickley Academy, was named a 2024 Carson Scholar.

Sewickley Academy Senior School student Olivia Stefanik has been accepted to be published in “Celebrating Arts,” a national art magazine/catalog for her positive and negative colored pencil drawing titled, “Diamond Butterfly.”

Five Sewickley Academy students received awards at this year’s Regional Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards. Ben Terrell was awarded a Silver Key for his essay entitled Fire in Fahrenheit 451. Tino Cercone received Honorable Mention for his painting, “Flamboyant Transmigration.” Makenzie Dice received Honorable Mention for her cardboard sculpture, “Corrugated Pineapple.” Lisette Niepa was awarded a Silver Key for her printmaking, “The Caribbean Starfish.” Minji Kim received six awards: “Mitochondria,” Gold Key, Painting; “Evening Primrose,” Silver Key, Drawing and Illustration; “Strive to be Alive,” Honorable Mention, Drawing and Illustration; “Pi-rate,” Honorable Mention, Drawing and Illustration; “World Shortest Tongue Twister,” Honorable Mention, Editorial Cartoon; “Invasive Species,” Honorable Mention, Mixed Media. Minji’s “Mitochondria” earned the Gold Key Award and will move on to Nationals. The National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards will be announced on June 12. Minji has the opportunity to earn a Gold, Silver, or Honorable Mention Award at the National level.

Quaker Valley School District officials recently celebrated winter sports athletes who competed at the state level. Swimmers and divers included seniors Kaitlyn Blackmer, Rena Gilligan and Emily Connors, juniors Ruby Olliffe, Ruby Krontine, Thomas Fuener, Ryan Steinfurth, Adlan Hifri and Margaret Getty and sophomores Austin Young and Alexa Westwood. Wrestlers recognized were senior Jack Kazalas and sophomore Bruce Anderchak. School directors presented them with certificates of recognition at the April board meeting.
