Multiple fire departments responded to a house fire along Garfield Street in Springdale on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire started when a vehicle in the home’s driveway caught fire and spread to the side of the house.
According to Springdale Emergency Coordinator Bruno Moretti, emergency responders were called to Garfield Street just after 2 p.m. for reports of a car fire.
Springdale Borough Police Chief Derek Dayoub said he and another officer were among the first people on scene.
“Arriving on scene, myself and another officer, we noticed the truck was completely engulfed in flames and starting to catch the house on fire,” Dayoub said.
Dayoub said there was no one in the home at the time of the fire. He said homes in close proximity to the fire were empty as well, aside from a dog.
“First on scene, myself, Mr. Moretti, my Officer (Garrett) Kimmell, Chief (Ryan) Sieminski from Frazer started to knock the fire down just so it didn’t spread anymore,” Dayoub said. “It’s under investigation thus far to see what caused it.”
Dayoub said the Allegheny County Fire Marshal will investigate the fire.
As a police officer, Dayoub said, helping knock down a fire is “just another day” at the office. He said they were assisting until the rest of the fire crews reached the scene.
“We all do whatever we have to do to make sure everybody’s safe,” he said.
Moretti said there were no injuries during the incident. It took about 15 minutes to knock down the fire.
“All the damage was to the outside of the house,” Moretti said. “Nothing inside.”
