History of the Property

Foggy Mountain has been hosting weddings since the construction of Walnut Hall in 2006. In 2006 we construtcted our Walnut Hall to fit into our rustic location in the style of a stable type barn. At the same time we constructed a banquet kitchen totally separate from our restaurant.Foggy Mountain was originally constructed by Ms. Dora Hillman as a Reformed Presbyterian Instruction center for Dr. R.C. Sproul in 1071. Students of Dr. Sproul attended seminars and services that Dr. Sproul taught. This was the beginning of Ligonier Ministries. The log chapel on the property was constructed in 1981 by Mrs. Hillman and used by Mrs. Hillman and her friends for bible study.Around 1984, Ligonier Ministry moved to Florida to continue its ministry. The property was sold to a private party and Ligonier Treatment Center was founded to assist with drug and alcohol rehab. Ligonier Treatment Center was open through approximately 1990 when it closed it’s doors. The property was purchased off the tax rolls in 1995 and opened as Foggy Mountain Lodge in 1997. The current owners purchased the property in 2004 making many changes including the Walnut Hall.
