In the Greater Pittsburgh area, MAD DADS (Men Against Destruction Defending Against Drugs and Social Disorder) stands as a beacon of hope and proactive change. Founded in May 1989 by concerned Christian parents in Omaha, Nebraska, the organization emerged in response to escalating gang violence and drug proliferation within their community. The Pittsburgh chapter, established in 2006, continues this mission by mobilizing men to restore safety and unity in their neighborhoods.
Mission and Activities
MAD DADS is dedicated to bringing about positive change by engaging men and women in the struggle to save children, communities, and themselves from social ills. The organization employs strategies designed to be vocal, visible, and vigilant in restoring safe communities and healthy families.
Community Engagement
The organization offers various avenues for community involvement:
- Street Patrols: Uniformed members maintain a strong, positive presence in neighborhoods, assisting at community events and reporting criminal activity to authorities.
- Community Service: Volunteers mentor youth, collaborate with law enforcement, and challenge negative stereotypes by highlighting the potential of today's youth.
- MOMS Division: Operating under MAD DADS, this division focuses on ensuring the healthy development of children's emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being.
• Surrogate Dads: Members act as father figures to young individuals, offering guidance, support, and sincere expressions of care.

Since its inception, the Greater Pittsburgh Area MAD DADS has received accolades for its dedication and commitment to the community.
