One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime. A group of men from Western Pennsylvania is joining together to show their support to those facing a breast cancer diagnosis by serving as ambassadors for the tenth annual Men Wear Pink campaign, happening now through October.
Men Wear Pink is a distinguished group of community leaders who are determined to raise awareness of and money to support the American Cancer Society mission to save more lives than ever from breast cancer.
Cancer impacts each of us in one way or another. Men Wear Pink ambassadors each have their personal reasons for joining the campaign, and they are determined to help the American Cancer Society end breast cancer as we know it, for everyone. This year’s class of ambassadors for the Western Pennsylvania campaign includes:
- Howie Allen (Dubois) – Howie, who works for Walmart, stated, “Cancer is awful and affects everyone. My Mother, Jackie, passed away from Breast Cancer in 2017 and my Father, Chuck, beat Lymphoma in 2024. The care they received from the hospitals was tremendous, and the people who provided the care were fantastic. Cancer derails people's lives and cuts life too short for far too many. As a community, we must do more to end cancer and put it in the rear-view mirror.”
- Cale Berger (Warrendale) – Cale, who works for Audacy, commented, “Like so many of us, I have been personally affected by the loss of a loved one from cancer. For that reason, I have a desire to not only be a part of the American Cancer Society as a board member, but to also be an ambassador for their Men Wear Pink campaign. I want to do my part in the fight against cancer.”
- Nick Breault (Irwin) – Nick, who works for Smail Automotive, stated, “I have seen the real struggles that people endure while fighting this disease. If I can contribute to raising funds for further cancer testing, research, and continued progress to fight cancer, then I’m all in.”
- James Broadway (Canonsburg) – James, who works for Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, said, “I'm proud to participate in Men Wear Pink because it’s an incredible opportunity to team up with the American Cancer Society and support a cause that touches so many lives. As a Men Wear Pink ambassador, I'm not only committed personally, but also passionate about getting our team at Hollywood Casino at the Meadows more involved in giving back to our community. Breast cancer has impacted my own family deeply — including my mom, who is a 21-year survivor, and several other loved ones who have battled or are still fighting this disease. This is personal for me, and I’m dedicated to doing my part to raise awareness, inspire hope, and support everyone affected by breast cancer — with the belief that one day, we will live in a world without breast cancer!”
- Benjamin Busby (Oakdale) – Benjamin, who works for Aflac, KB&B Insures, noted, “Supporting the fight against breast cancer contributes to funding for research that leads to new treatments, improved survival rates, and potentially a cure. Bringing awareness can lead to early detection and better outcomes. Educating others about signs and symptoms can save lives. I am a huge advocate of catching things early before it’s too late. One thing that Aflac has taught me is how financially devastating having cancer can be, which is why early screenings is extremely important and a must! I may not be the one who is able to cure cancer, but you can bet that I will try and do my part to put us one step closer.”
- Chris DiLorenzo (McDonald) – Chris, who works for Turner Construction, noted, “Cancer became much more personal for me over the past year, as I have watched my sister beat triple-negative breast cancer. Her cancer journey has made a profound impact on my family.”
- Keith Holsing (Washington) – Keith, who works for ARS Mobile Wheel Repair, commented, “My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. I became a Men Wear Pink ambassador to not only show my support for her, but to educate others about the disease.”
- Zack Johnston (Baden) – Zack, who works for Winthrop Management, said, “Like most people, cancer has touched the lives of people I know. I’m participating in the hopes of one day being able to end breast cancer.”
- Frank Kochin (Pittsburgh – Crafton) – Frank, who works for Zimmer Kunz, stated, “I became a Men Wear Pink ambassador because it’s important to me to support my daughters, extended family, and all who have been affected by cancer.”
- Luke Kriger (Imperial) – Luke, who works for LKICORP, noted, “When a Cancer diagnosis occurs, it impacts families and communities. A woman’s voice is powerful, heard, and understood. I stand with all women fighting Breast cancer. We will find a cure.”
- Paul Nussbaum (Pittsburgh - Robinson) – Paul, who works for Audacy, commented, “I became a Men Wear Pink ambassador for my dear aunt, who battled and beat breast cancer.”
- Paul Purdy (Bloomfield) – Paul, who works for the American Cancer Society, stated, “I became a Men Wear Pink ambassador to support my cousin and friend, who were both diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer at the age of 30.”
- Bill Stull (Cranberry) – Bill, who works for Donwil, said, “I became a Men Wear Pink ambassador to honor the memory of my mother, who passed away from breast cancer, and to support my father, who is currently battling prostate cancer.”
- Jeremy Suschak (Sewickley) – Jeremy, who works for DBR & Co Walth Partners, noted, “I believe in showing up for survivors, honoring those who have passed, and supporting research and action to find a cure.”
- Del Wilmot (Pittsburgh – Beechview) – Del, who works for Schneider Downs, commented, “During a regular mammogram, a mass was detected in my girlfriend's breast and was able to be removed before it metastasized to a greater threat. It’s vital that we work together to educate women on the importance of routine mammography.”
