The Norwin Public Library held its official grand opening on Caruthers Lane on October 2, 2004. Over a million Norwin residents have visited the library during the last twenty years and have borrowed over three million books and other items. In addition, more than one hundred thousand people have attended a free educational program in the last 20 years.
The Norwin Public Library, which expects to circulate 190,000 items this year, has been the highest circulating public library in Westmoreland county for the last six years and has experienced a 215% increase in circulation since moving to Caruthers Lane.
The Norwin Public Library was originally established in 1937 in two rooms above the Irwin Bank & Trust on Main St. The Library soon out grew those rooms and, over the years, has occupied three successively larger locations before moving to the 16,000 square foot facility on Caruthers in 2004.
