The Hill District of Pittsburgh recently celebrated the opening of Salem's Market & Grill at Centre Heldman Plaza, marking the end of a nearly five-year period without a local grocery store. This new establishment offers a variety of fresh produce, meats, and international imports, providing residents with convenient access to essential goods.
Salem's Community members have expressed their excitement and relief at the market's opening. Joann Lewis, the first customer to enter the store, highlighted the convenience for those without personal transportation, stating, "There are people who don't drive and have a hard time getting to the grocery store, so it really is a blessing to have this store here.
The market's owner, Abdullah Salem, acknowledges the challenges ahead but remains committed to serving the community. He emphasizes the importance of community engagement and support in ensuring the store's success.
As the Hill District adjusts to this new addition, residents are optimistic about the positive impact Salem's Market will have on their daily lives and the neighborhood's revitalization.
