Collection for SHIM

The Bethel Park Police Department and Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company are collecting food and supplies for the South Hills Interfaith Movement, which helps local families in need.

A donation bin is in the lobby of the police station through Nov. 27. A drive-through donation drop-off will be available from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 24 at the fire station on Brightwood Road.

Independence craft show

A craft show at Independence Middle School, 2807 Bethel Church Road, will be hosted by the school’s PTSO from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 23.

The show features more than 45 crafters and vendors, Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck, gyro food truck, donuts, fruit, pizza, chips, drinks and raffles.

Bethel Park Historical Society’s upcoming events:

• Dick Jewell presents “The Whisky Rebellion: Our Nation’s First Constitutional test” at 2 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Schoolhouse Arts and History Center, 2600 South Park Road. Seating is limited. RSVP to historicalsocietybp@gmail.com if you would like to attend.

Our Lady of Hope blood drive

An Our Lady of Hope Parish blood drive is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 23 in Frawley Hall at St. Valentine’s Catholic Church, 2700 Ohio St., Bethel Park.

Holiday activities

Bethel Park’s annual tree lighting is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Ave.

The annual Senior Citizen Holiday Luncheon will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 13 at Bethel Park High School. A “Jingle All the Way” Market is from 3 to 7 p.m. Dec. 17 at the community center.

‘Christmas County Spelling Bee’

The South Hills Church of the Nazarene Acting Up Club will present the musical “The Christmas County Spelling Bee” at 6 p.m. Dec. 7 and 8 at the church, 5601 Library Road, Bethel Park.

Admission is free. A cookie reception will follow the performances.

Dean Streator Holiday Concert

The Bethel Park Community Foundation’s annual Dean Streator Holiday Concert will be held at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Ave.

The stage will be shared by Community Band South, under the direction of Max Gonano and Chad Hill; Bethel Park High School’s Top 21 Choral Ensemble, Todd Kuczawa, director; and the Handbell Ringers of Southminster Presbyterian Church, conducted by Samantha DeFurio and Mark Etzel.

Bethel Art Guild

The Bethel Art Guild will meet at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Ave., starting with a light lunch and Christmas cookies provided by members.

Judy Mur, guild president, will report on the recent participation of members in the art show at the Galleria.

The guest speaker is Robert Bowden, an accomplished watercolorist rooted in Pittsburgh. His degree from Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Fine Arts led him to his career as a graphic designer and sparked an interest in and pursuit of painting.

He has published four books and three exhibition catalogs of his watercolor paintings. His works hang in four museums as permanent collections and in numerous corporate and private collections.

All artists and want-to-be artists are welcome to attend guild meetings.

Harmony Singers concert

The Harmony Singers of Pittsburgh will present “Sing Fa La La!” under the direction of Cynthia G. Pratt at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 and 2 p.m. Dec. 16 at Brightwood Christian Church, 5044 W. Library Ave., Bethel Park.

The concert will include an hour of entertainment for all ages with a mixture of joyful, sacred and secular songs. There will be a basket raffle.

The concert is free and open to the public. Donations to the Harmony Singers will be accepted

Joy of Christmas craft show

The Labouré Ladies Guild of St. Catherine Labouré Parish will sponsor its annual Joy of Christmas craft show from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 23 at St. Louise de Marillac School and Parish Center, 320 McMurray Road, Upper St. Clair.

Featured are 115 artists and crafters, a bake sale, crafts raffle, 50/50, and lunch and snacks available for purchase. Admission is $2 and includes one ticket for the crafts raffle.

Strollers are not permitted inside the show, as per the Upper St. Clair fire marshal.
