Mildred (Firestone) Mathews, 102, of Indian Head, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at the home of her daughter. Mildred was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Normalville, a daughter of the late Hiram and Mollie Pritts Firestone. Prior to her retirement, Mildred worked for 25 years as the manager of the ski lodge at Seven Springs Resort in Champion. Before that, she worked in the cap department at Anchor Hocking in South Connellsville. Mildred was the last surviving member of her immediate family and also was the oldest member of Davistown United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Donald C. Mathews, in 1996; a son, Donald L. Mathews, in 1984; her brothers, Harry, Edward and Sam Firestone; and sisters, Rosella Prinkey, Kathryn Howard, Virginia Miller and Gladys Pritts. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Ann (Charles) Orndorff, of Greensburg; her granddaughter, Lori (Dave) Fox, of Indian Head; her grandson, Tom Orndorff, of Greensburg; her great-granddaughters, Emma and Nina Orndorff, of Greensburg; and her great-grandson, Matthew Fox and friend, Maya Lucas, of Acme. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Means and Amedysis Hospice of Scottdale for their wonderful care. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday in the MARK C. BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., at the corner of Route 711 and 146 Municipal Building Road, Melcroft (724-455-2310), where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with Pastor David Bowman officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Champion.
