William M. "Bill" Powell Sr., of Washington Township, passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, in his home. Born March 3, 1939, in New Kensington, he was the son of the late Vernon "Bud" and DeRose (Smith) Powell. A 1957 graduate of Vandergrift High School, Bill went on to proudly serve our country in the Army. In 1962, Bill and Sylvia (Henry) Powell joined together in holy matrimony and thereafter began their own family. Bill was employed by various machine shops in the local area. He enjoyed antiques and supported antique car and truck clubs for more than 50 years. He was also a member of numerous Masonic organizations. Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sylvia (Henry) Powell; children, William (Pam) Powell Jr., and Lori (Doug) Shotts; grandchildren, Megan (Ryan) Cornman, Sean Powell, Thomas (Dani) Shotts, Nicole Powell and Rosie Bennett-Powell; great grandchildren, Skylar and Van Cornman; sister-in-law, Barbara Miller; and his beloved dog, Benny. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his infant grandson, Cody Powell; and daughter, Barbie Powell. At Bill's request, any past or present member of FOIAH interested in furthering the cause may send a small monetary donation to William Moore, chairman of the Preservation Committee. Visitation will be held from 3 until the hour of the service at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., Owens View Ave., Apollo, with Pamela Neale officiating.
