Robert B. Mathews, 81, of Leechburg, passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, in his residence. A son of the late Stanley Lee Mathews I and Vergene (Spencer) Mathews, he was born Oct. 9, 1942, in Pittsburgh. Robert was a veteran of the Navy. He worked various jobs and held many positions throughout his life. He was a member of Forks Zion Lutheran Church in Gilpin Township. Although he played pool in numerous other places, he was a member of the Hungarian Club Pool League. Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing as pastimes. Survivors include his brothers, Stanley Lee Mathews II (Linda), of Apollo, and G. Meade Mathews, of Colorado; sisters, Leah Bohichik (John), of New Jersey, and Liz Ciuca (Doug), of Vandergrift; sweet sister-in-law, Glenna Stitt, of Vandergrift; daughter-in-law, Laurie Mathews, of Erie; grandson, Christopher Mathews, of Erie; numerous nieces and nephews; many church friends; and his bird companions, Spunky and Fozzie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Karen Sulinn (Steim) Mathews in 2022. Friends will be welcomed by his family for a Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at Forks Zion Lutheran Church, 253 Forks Church Road, Gilpin Township.
