Roland William Black, Sr., 89, of Elizabeth Twp., PA, died on May 21, 2024. Born Jan. 29, 1935, in Monessen, PA, he was the son of the late Howard Lee, Sr., and Eva Hill Black. He loved fishing, hunting, traveling with his wife, watching the Pittsburgh Penguins, and tending to his fruit trees. Family was everything to him. His grandchildren were the joy of his life. He will be dearly missed. Roland is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jane Cardamone Black of Elizabeth Twp., PA; children, Roland William Black, Jr., of New Florence, PA, Kristin (William) Helzlsouer of Harrisville, PA, Lori (Charles) Conley of White Oak, PA, and Wendy Varsafsky of New Florence, PA; grandchildren, Mason (Hailey) Black, Kelsey (Branden) Hensel, Shelby Helzlsouer; Hunter (Ian) Lynch, Cole Helzlsouer, Adam Conley, Randi Vereb, Rachael Vereb, Gretchen Varsafsky, and Abigal Varsafsky; ten great-grandchildren, with one on the way; sisters, Gail (the late John) Odorcich of Versailles, PA, Linda (the late Robert) Hitchens of Tustin, CA, Fae (the late Ronald) Leber of Glassport, PA, Dianne (Mark) McKay of Port Vue, PA, and Dawn Pensy of OH. In addition to his parents, Roland was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard Lee Black, Jr., and Bryon Black; and grandson, Ryan Conley. Family and friends will gather from 2 until 8 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024, at STRIFFLER'S OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES, INC., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA, 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177).
