Donald E. Slezak, 90, of Latrobe, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at his home. Born Oct. 6, 1933, in Loyalhanna, he was a son of the late Edward A. 'Whitey' Slezak and Catherine (Yancy) Slezak. Don was a member of Holy Family Church. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Teledyne Vasco with 41 years of service. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served during the Korean War and carried the values instilled in him as a Marine throughout his life. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Don was incredibly ingenious and self-sufficient. He was an excellent woodworker and could fix anything. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joann E. (Pennesi) Slezak. Don is survived by one son, Anthony Slezak, and his wife Cheryl, of Latrobe; two daughters, Donna Calabrese, and her husband Anthony, of Export and Diane Barchesky, and her husband Edward, of Derry; eight grandchildren, Craig Calabrese, Lisa Krall, Amy Butenko, Beth Addis, Lynn Simms, Sarah Slezak, Julie McLuckie and Mike Slezak; 11 great-grandchildren, Abigayle Meier, Brian Krall, Jason Krall, Emma Simms, Hunter Simms, Carrie Addis, Brooke Addis, Joshua Butenko, Luke Butenko, Kelly Butenko and Connor McLuckie; two sisters, Mildred Hlad of Latrobe and Irene Bisi, and her husband Ronald, of Latrobe; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Redstone Highlands Home Hospice, especially Renee, Eric, Dawn, and Julia, and his personal care aide, Liz Gnecco, for their kind and compassionate care. At Don's request there will be no public visitations. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Holy Family Church, Latrobe, with the Reverend E. George Saletrik as celebrant. Interment will follow at Unity Cemetery, where graveside military services will be accorded by the Greensburg VFW Post No. 33.
