Aldi will open its store in Allegheny Township on Nov. 7, the ever-expanding supermarket chain has announced, giving shoppers another option in an area thin on grocers.
A grand opening ceremony will be held at the store in Hyde Park Plaza before customers are let in at 8:45 a.m. The location will create 15 jobs, Aldi executive JR Perry previously told TribLive.
In April, Aldi publicly committed to opening a store in Allegheny Township, along with three other locations in Western Pennsylvania: Wilkinsburg, Harmony and the upper part of Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood. The Harmony store opened Aug. 29.
It’s all part of an ambitious expansion program, through which the company hopes to add 800 stores to its 2,400 by the end of 2028. Much of that growth is slated for Pennsylvania.
At present, Giant Eagle is the only supermarket in Allegheny Township.
