Local band The Clarks will play in the Pittsburgh mayor’s office Wednesday to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
“It’s the first ever concert in the mayor’s office,” Mayor Corey O’Connor said in a social media post, adding he grew up listening to the band.
The show will be broadcast live at 1 p.m. Wednesday on the city’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
Molly Onufer, O’Connor’s press secretary, wasn’t aware of which two songs the band would perform in a call on Tuesday morning.
O’Connor will also be declaring Wednesday “The Clarks Day” in Pittsburgh as part of the performance.
While the office is too small to invite the public inside for the show, Onufer said that fans can watch via livestream on social media sites, including Facebook and on the City Channel Pittsburgh’s YouTube.
“They’re a local band that has done great things nationally and internationally,” Onufer said. “Everyone in Pittsburgh loves The Clarks.”
The Clarks formed at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1986, striking success with songs like “Penny on the Floor” and “Cigarette.”
The band in January released an EP titled “Echoes From the Pitt,” featuring a re-recorded version of their song “Better Off Without You.”
“Better Off Without You” was also recently featured on the HBO Max hit series “The Pitt” this year.
Even after 40 years, The Clarks are still performing, selling out a show at The Oaks Theater in Oakmont in February.
