Pittsburgh police are asking for the public’s help identifying the driver of a vehicle that they say fled after two vehicles struck and killed a pedestrian late Thursday night.
The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on Bennett Street near Oakwood Street, along the border of the city’s Homewood and East Hills neighborhoods.
The victim was found lying in the roadway.
Police spokeswoman Emily Bourne said the victim suffered “injuries consistent with having been struck by a vehicle.”
According to investigators, the man was walking in the roadway when he was struck by an SUV.
Police said that driver told them he got out of his vehicle to check on the victim when another vehicle traveling on Bennett Street also struck the pedestrian.
The SUV driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
The second driver did not stay at the scene.
Police identified the second vehicle as a silver or gray Toyota Prius with Pennsylvania license plate NCL-1036, the police blotter said.
The Collision Investigation Unit is seeking the public's assistance to help identify the driver of this vehicle, which was involved in a fatal overnight vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Bennett Street along the Homewood South and East Hills neighborhood border.
