Shooting follows domestic altercation

A man was shot in his right thigh following a domestic altercation early Monday morning, Pittsburgh public safety officials said.

Police were called to the 2700 block of Bermgan Street in the city’s Sheraden neighborhood around 12:45 a.m. Monday.

The injured man was alert and talking to officers. Pittsburgh EMS took him to a hospital in stable condition, officials said.

A woman found at the scene was taken to police headquarters for questioning officials said.

The Mobile Crime Unit processed the scene, where they found a shell casing. Violent crime unit detectives are investigating.


Pittsburgh opening cooling centers

Pittsburgh will be opening five cooling centers as the region braces for a major heat wave.

The cooling centers will be open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Locations include Beechview Healthy Active Living Center at 1555 Broadway Avenue, Greenfield Healthy Active Living Center at 745 Greenfield Avenue, Homewood Healthy Active Living Center at 7321 Frankstown Avenue, Sheraden Healthy Active Living Center at 720 Sherwood Avenue and South Side Healthy Active Living Center at 12th and Bingham Streets.

Heat index values this week are expected to top 100 degrees.


Dense fog impacting Pittsburgh region

Dense fog that developed overnight could impact visibility for the rush hour commute Monday.

The National Weather Service’s local office in Moon issued a special weather statement cautioning about heavy fog throughout the region.

The National Weather Service encouraged people who encounter fog to use their low beam headlights and leave extra distance between vehicles.

Forecasters expect conditions to improve by around 9 a.m.
