Maine’s many wonders, including Acadia National Park and lobster shacks along the Atlantic coastline, just got easier to reach for Pittsburghers.

Low-cost carrier Breeze Airways announced last week that it has begun offering direct, nonstop flights between Pittsburgh International Airport and Portland, Maine.

Round-trip flights will run twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, through Oct. 29.

Breeze Airways CEO David Neeleman said the carrier has been expanding its service out of PIT and is excited to give Pittsburghers another summer getaway option.

Breeze also offers service from Pittsburgh to Jacksonville, Fla.; New Orleans; Norfolk, Va.; Charleston, S.C.; Hartford, Conn.; Long Island, N.Y.; Providence, R.I.; Orange County, Calif.; Provo, Utah; and Raleigh-Durham, N.C. It is adding flights to Los Angeles and Tampa starting in the fall.

In 2021, Breeze received about $560,000 from the Allegheny County Airport Authority to subsidize some of its new flights.
