Louis J. DiVittorio, 94, of Irwin, formerly of Verona, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 27, 2024. Louis was born in Pittsburgh on Sept. 13, 1929 and later graduated from Schenley High School. He continued to accrue wisdom as a lifetime learner and became an ordained Christian Minister. He was married to his beloved Rose Marie "Rosie" DeMartino, for 71 years, until her passing in 2022. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, James (Evelyn) and Anthony "Bucky" (MaryAnn); sisters, Margaret (William) Venturella, Katherine "Katie" (Michael) Vacsulka and Josephine (Nicholas) Redondo; his grandson, Casey; and great-grandson, Keegan. Louis is survived by his children, Duane, Donna, Denise (Jeff) Hohman, David (Carole), Dan (Lynn), Dana (Bob) Moesta and Deneen (Bill) Wilson; grandchildren, Michael, Chris (Janna), Danielle, Jen (Casey, deceased), Audra, Greg (Jessi), Jared, Vinnie (Alanna), Timothy, Jessie (Patrick), David (Sydney), Alex, Caroline, Will, Lisa, Allison, Elise and Alicia Rose; great-grandchildren, Addilyn Rose, Gabriel and Matthew, Hannah and Logan, Dottie Rose and Carter; and dozens of nieces and nephews, many other family members and close friends. In his 47 years as a saved Christian, Louis, also known as "Pap Louie", was a voracious reader of the Bible and enabled the salvation of many people he encountered while serving in Christian organizations. He was especially actively involved in a prison ministry for over 25 years. He lived his life to demonstrate that it's the relationships that matter, and it starts with a relationship with Jesus Christ, who is the way to salvation. He provided that gift to everyone he contacted living out the God, Family, Country priorities. Serving overseas during the Korean war, Louis was a proud veteran who was assigned to the Army's 101st Airborne Division, training in Texas and deploying to the Pacific theater. Louis loved playing cards and sports, gardening and making people laugh by lovingly giving them a hard time - especially his family. Whether it was at family gatherings, church events or otherwise, he had a gravity to him and always made those around him feel special and loved. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, April 5 at 10:30 a.m. at The Fold Church, 11817 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills, PA 15235. Dr. Rick Nugara will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Our Daily Bread at RBC Ministries (https://ourdailybread.org/planned-giving/) or to Chaplain Services and Interfaith Chapels | VA Pittsburgh Health Care | Veterans Affairs (https://www.va.gov/pittsburgh-health-care/chaplain-services-and-interfaith-chapels).
