Sandcastle opens for the season

Starting this Saturday, Sandcastle Water Park will be open for the season. Beat the heat with a variety of water slides and other wet-and-wild attractions on opening weekend. Sandcastle is celebrating its 35th year in operation this summer.

One-day tickets and season passes are available online now. The park promises a “better, brighter and fresher-than-ever” Sandcastle this year.

Taste of Asia at Heinz History Center

To celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Heinz History Center will be offering mouthwatering culinary delights this Sunday.

Included with History Center admission — and free to members — the event will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will be cooking demonstrations and Asian American food history lessons, but also tons of delicious bites to try at the food market.

A variety of restaurants and food vendors will be on-site with bites and larger portions for purchase. Participating restaurants include Amy’s Bakery Cafe, Szechuan Spice, Zen Restaurant and Sushi Bar and many more.

Chalk Fest

Riverlife Pittsburgh will hold Chalk Fest on Saturday and Sunday on the North Shore.

Saturday will be “Festival Day” from 1 to 6 p.m. Attendees can meet the artists, take part in a community mural, enjoy food and beverages, experience live entertainment and more.

Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 pm. will be “Viewing Day,” a more low-key chance to enjoy the temporary art and a beautiful view of the rivers. Participants can also partake in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Family Fun Zone.

The Science Behind Pixar at the Science Center

Opening Saturday — and running through Jan. 5, 2025 — is a Science Center exhibit that peeks behind the magic of some fan-favorite animated films.

The exhibit features a massive, interactive and informative play space, animated selfie opportunities and more. It’s a great chance for fun and learning for the whole family!

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Day Ceremony and Celebration

Join Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Oakland to celebrate and commemorate Memorial Day this Monday. Hosted by Mike Frazer of 3WS Radio, the event is free and open to the public.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event will include free admission to the museum, as well as family-friendly activities, food and drinks to purchase and music by Camp Chase Fife and Drums.

Attendees will observe the 3 p.m. Moment of Remembrance with a moment of silence.
