Pittsburgh Police have charged a man with attempted homicide after they say he shot another man early Friday morning in the cityโ€™s Strip District neighborhood.

Police were called to the 1100 block of Penn Avenue around 2:15 a.m. for reports of a man brandishing a weapon and threatening people inside a business.

While officers were en route, emergency officials updated the call to say a man had been shot. He was transported by EMS to a local hospital where he was taken immediately to surgery, police said. He was listed in critical condition.

The suspect, 55-year-old William Samuels, with no known address in court paperwork, was taken into custody at the scene. Police said Samuels was experiencing some type of medical distress and was also transported to a local hospital to be evaluated before being taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

Samuels is charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault and six counts each of terroristic threats and simple assault.

He is awaiting arraignment, according to court records.
