Pittsburgh police used pepper spray to break up a melee outside of Obama Academy in East Liberty involving about 40 to 50 juveniles.
Police responded to the scene at 8:40 p.m. Friday after a basketball game.
Pittsburgh Public School police requested the assistance of city police after a crowd of about 200 juveniles gathered in the school parking lot after the game.
Officers from multiple police zones responded to break up the fights and “deployed pepper spray to disperse the crowd and restore order,” according from a statement from Eliza Durham, media coordinator for Pittsburgh Public Safety.
Durham said no officers or civilians reported having any injuries.
“No arrests were made during the incident,” Durham said Saturday.
Allderdice defeated Obama Academy, 53-35, in a varsity boys basketball game that night.
Durham did not respond to a request for specific information, including what schools or districts the students were from, their ages or grade levels and what caused the fight.
“I have no additional updates to share at this time,” she said, referring school-related inquires to Pittsburgh Public Schools.
A spokesperson for Pittsburgh Public Schools did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday.
