John A. Thomas, 72, of Alverton, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 29, 2024, at the Brighton Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. John was born Nov. 20, 1951, in Mt Pleasant the son of the late George A. and Mary E. Housel Thomas. He was a life member of the Moose Lodge #194, Scottdale, a life member of the American Legion Post #301, Connellsville, and VFW 201, Connellsville, and a social member of the American Legion Post #446, Mt Pleasant. He was a Marine Corps veteran during the Vietnam War. Surviving are his children, John A. Thomas, Jr. and Byron Thomas of Alverton, and Ruth E. Kozemchak (Stan) of Bradenville; grandchildren, George A. McCann of Bradenville and Jessica M. Lint of Connellsville; brothers, James and Ralph Thomas; and sisters, Barbara Hice and Brenda Cunningham. In addition to his wife, Ruth M. (Kistner) Thomas, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Randy and Larry Thomas. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at SLATER-REGA FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 730 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Interment with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #446 will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
