It appears another big-name national tenant will fill the vacant Walmart anchor space at The Waterworks.

Dick’s Sporting Goods is expected to open in the 80,000-square-foot store, according to The Business Times.

J.J. Gumberg Co. spokeswoman Mara Mrvos confirmed a new tenant is coming to The Waterworks but declined to name it to allow the company to make the announcement.

Shoppers will see the empty store finally filled after two years. It is one of the largest storefronts at the plaza along Freeport Road, near Aspinwall.

Other anchors include Giant Eagle, T.J.Maxx and Dunham’s Sports.

Corporate media contacts for Dick’s Sporting Goods did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

There are several Dick’s stores in the area, including at the Pittsburgh Mills — just 9 miles away. It is unclear the impact a new Dick’s store at The Waterworks will have on the Mills location.

An employee who answered the phone at the Pittsburgh Mills store referred calls to corporate.

There also are Dick’s stores in Greensburg, Monroeville, North Hills and The Waterfront in Homestead.

The former Waterworks Walmart operated for 20 years before closing in November 2022. At that time, a Walmart communications director cited underperforming sales.
