The new Fox Chapel borough manager’s salary will be $185,000, according to borough records obtained by TribLive.
Council unanimously voted May 19 to hire Julie Bastianini as its next top administrator upon the retirement of current manager Gary J. Koehler.
Her salary was not listed in the May meeting minutes and Koehler was reluctant to release the information when requested multiple times earlier this month.
A Right-to-Know request was filed by TribLive via email with the borough June 12.
A response was sent back with the salary information requested on June 18.
Koehler has served in local government for decades, including the last 17 years as Fox Chapel’s manager.
His last official day at Fox Chapel is Aug. 12.
He recently received high praise from council members and the mayor for his work and dedication.
“Gary Koehler has been a wonderful borough manager for 17 plus years,” council president Andrew Bennett said via email.
“He is respected by all the municipal managers and I can state unequivocally that he has always acted with the highest ethical standards and in the best interests of the Fox Chapel residents. He will be sorely missed by all of staff, council and the mayor.”
Bastianini recently served as Marshall Township’s manager. Supervisors accepted her resignation on June 2.
She is expected to start in Fox Chapel sometime mid to late July. Koehler said he will assist in the transition.
Bastianini was one of two finalists selected out of multiple candidates for the position.
“Given Fox Chapel’s strong reputation, coupled with an extensive search process, we were able to interview many highly qualified candidates,” Bennett said.
“From this process, we feel very fortunate to have identified an individual that we feel embodies both the character and skill set that will enable her to lead this exceptional team and continue to set Fox Chapel apart as a premier community.”
