Susan Susie Douglas, 60, died peacefully surrounded by family Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024 in Pittsburgh. Born June 9, 1963, she was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She was preceded in death by her father, William Douglas; and she is survived by her mother, Helen Wood Douglas; her husband, James Lechowicz; her sons, Charles Lechowicz, Thomas Lechowicz, Luke Stegeman and Michael Stegeman; her siblings, William "BD" Douglas, Mary Lynn and husband, Robert Shilling and Michael and wife, Heather Gamble; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was a school counselor at Kerr Elementary in Fox Chapel School District for 17 years before retiring after her breast cancer diagnosis. Her colleagues described her as a kind, positive, and caring person who struggled with leaving her job and her students, but most desperately did not want to leave her family so soon. Sue inspired others to listen more and talk less, to see life as a glass half full, and to be kind to those who may not always expect kindness, to be a gentle breeze. Susie enjoyed traveling with her husband and family with her favorite spots being Mexico and Jamaica. She was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins fan and even attended games in her favorite purple cancer awareness Pens jersey. She spent her time loving life, family and friends and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her. The family has decided not to do a traditional funeral and instead will hold a celebration of life for family and friends. Arrangements entrusted to the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville, 412-856-4747. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to charities doing research on metastatic cancer or to the 412 Thrive community, of which she was an avid participant, whose "mission is to help a community of individuals impacted by breast cancer and genetic mutations that lead to cancer." online condolences and tributes may be given at www.jobefuneralhome.com.
