Rose Marie Hughes, 84, of Penn Township, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Greater Pittsburgh in Greensburg. She was born June 22, 1939, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Baleno) Bergamasco. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Daniel Altieri; a son-in-law, Robert Hand; and two brothers, Frederick and Joseph Bergamasco. Rose was born and raised in East Liberty and graduated from Westinghouse High School. She married her first husband Dan "Shan" Altieri and moved to Monroeville to raise their family. Shan passed away, and Rose was left to raise her three young kids alone at 33 years old. During this time, she worked at the Holiday House, Kings Chinese Restaurant, Jimmy Monzos, and the Rosecliff, where she met the love of her life and dad to all her children, Edward Hughes. They moved to Murrysville and had their son Edward III "E.J.' and they all enjoyed country life together. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in Marienville. She loved throwing parties, and hosting holiday dinners for family and friends. She was the 'Hostess with the Mostess.' She was a self taught seamstress, made various crafts, and had a successful Tupperware business. She enjoyed bingo, any casino, and playing cards with her lady friends. Rose Marie is survived by her adoring husband, Edward J. Hughes, and would have celebrated their 51st anniversary on May 25; four children, Patricia (M. Kevin) Toohill, Diana Altieri Hand, Daniel (Ruth) Altieri Jr., and Edward J. (Michele) Hughes III; nine grandchildren, Jack and Katyjane Toohill, Tiffini (Jeff) Parsons, Michael (Shauna) Hand, Dan (Amy) Altieri, Dominic (and fiancee, Courtney) Altieri, Carissa Altieri, Julia and Colin Hughes; five great-grandchildren, Brody Parsons, Sidney, Reese and Cameron Hand, and Daniel Altieri IV; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at RNC and Bridges Hospice for their wonderful care. Visitation for Rose Marie will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2024, at the Murrysville Alliance Church.
