Stewart L. Shaffer, 90, of Mt. Pleasant Township, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 26, 2024. He was born November 12, 1933, in Kecksburg, son of the late Fairmont and Daisy (Slater) Shaffer. Stewart was a devout Christian, singing at many church services and weddings. Those who heard his voice knew his passion for the Lord. Stewart and his wife, Joann, were active volunteers in home mission work for more than 15 years, travelling to various churches and centers across the United States. He was a member of First Assembly of God in Mt. Pleasant for many years and loved visiting various churches and meeting new people. Stewart served in the U.S. Army and loved talking about his tour in Germany and how impactful it was on his life. In addition to his parents, Stewart was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Joann Shaffer; his eldest son, Jeffrey Stewart Shaffer, and his youngest son, Gary Michael Shaffer; brothers, Wayne Shaffer Sr. and wife, Pearle and Norman Shaffer and wife, Lucy Ann; twin sister, Shirley Howard, and husband, Ray; father and mother-in-law, Eberhart and Elizabeth (Lietke) Terhorst; brothers-in-law, Clarence, William (Bill), Louis and Jack Terhorst, Frank Patula; sisters-in-law, Nellie Patula, Delores, Donna and Claudia Terhorst. Stewart is survived by one son, Brian Shaffer and wife, Paula of Acme; one daughter, Lori Schrock of Scottdale; and one daughter-in-law, Brenda of Penn Hills. Also surviving are eight incredible grandchildren, Kyle Shaffer (Kristen), Lauren Shaffer (Brendan), David Schrock, Jessica Jacob (Jeff),Jonathan Shaffer (Sierra), Lindsay Shaffer (Drew), Aaron Trout and Jade Shaffer; one beautiful great-granddaughter, Lilliana Shaffer; a great-grandson, who Lauren and Brendan will welcome in May; brother-in-law, Jerry Terhorst and wife, Joyce of Greensburg; sister-in-law, Edna Terhorst, of Acme; and Joni Dewhirst and husband, Tom of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their heart-felt thanks to the staff at Hempfield Manor and Bridges Hospice for their kindness and compassion while Stewart was under their care.
