Annual Potluck Picnic set for June 26
Cooks-n-Books is hosting its annual Potluck Picnic from 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 26.
After a year of baking, sauteeing, burning and tasting some delicious recipes, now it’s time to make your own favorite dish and bring it to share.
Adults are invited to get together with old friends or come out and make new ones.
No experience or culinary expertise is required — just a desire to share recipes and food.
The picnic will be held outside at the Rotary Pavilion, between the municipal building and the playground.
There is no set menu so bring what you like, but there is a $2 fee to cover the cost of supplies.
Summer lab for kids to explore art, science
Children ages 8 to 12 are invited to explore art and science from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays, starting July 1 through Aug. 12, during Rainbow Lab Adventures.
A variety of STEAM projects will be completed. Things might get messy so dress appropriately.
Registration is appreciated.

Art-making dates to help stock charitable Popup Shop
Artastic: Art for Everyone will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Friday, June 20 through July 25, to make things for the library’s Popup Shop, with all proceeds benefiting North Hills Community Outreach and Animal Friends.
The projects, which are geared toward 8 and older, might include bath bombs, pet toys, beading, flower looms and more.
Everyone is welcome to drop-in during that time to help.
The Color Our World: An Indoor Craft Program will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. every Thursday, July 10 through Aug. 14. Patrons of all ages are welcome to stop by to make crafts to decorate the library, take home or sell in the library’s Popup Shop.
Registration is appreciated for both art-making programs.
Summer Reading Program in full swing
It’s not too late to join the library’s Summer Reading Program, which started June 1 and runs through Aug. 9.
This year’s theme is Color Your World, and all ages are encouraged to participate.
Children 12 and younger receive a swag bag upon registration. When they return each week, they earn raffle tickets for a chance to win one of the library’s prizes.
Teens and adults 13 and older also are invited to read, visit the library and get raffle tickets for chances to win prizes.
The library is all-in on making this summer your most colorful yet, per its website:
Paint the town “red” with a summer full of fun at the library. There’s no reason to be “blue” when you can color your days brighter with books, audiobooks, ebooks, magazines, Wonderbooks, graphic novels and more. Check out programs for all ages, such as bingo, craft workshops, story time, chess club, game night and book discussion groups —all of which provide a “golden” opportunity for fun all summer long. Your friends will be “green” with envy when they see the exciting RAD Pass, Experience Kits and other resources you can access with a library card. Everyone can be tickled “pink” because a library card is free for all residents of Allegheny County.
Experience Kits showcase historic sites, museums
Starting June 1, the library will offer a variety of Experience Kits.
The kits give two adults and up to six children the opportunity to visit eight historic sites and museums for free:
• Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, including the Fort Pitt Museum in Point State Park and Meadowcroft Rockshelter in Avella
Featured Local Businesses
• Bushy Run Battlefield, Jeannette
• Depreciation Lands Museum, Hampton
• Gibson House Manor, aka Mark Twain Manor, Jamestown
• Historic Fort Steuben, Steubenville, Ohio
• Captain William Vicary Mansion, Freedom
• Duncan Miller Glass Museum, Washington, Pa.
• Harmony Museum, Harmony
The kits are nonrequestable and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Each kit can be borrowed for one week at a time.
