An incarcerated man who died in February in the Allegheny County Jail was the victim of accidental asphyxiation.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office issued that ruling Tuesday in the Feb. 1 death of Mark Schwartz.

No additional information was released about the circumstances of Schwartz’s death.

“There was nothing suspicious found, and it was determined to be an accidental death,” Jim Madalinsky, an Allegheny County Police spokesman, said.

Schwartz, 55, of Hampton was found unresponsive in his cell shortly after 7:30 a.m., according to the jail warden.

Schwartz was taken to jail Aug. 2 on charges of simple assault and harassment.

He had been denied bail as “a danger to himself and the community,” according to court records.
