A teenager is in critical condition after he exchanged gunfire with another teenage boy this week in West Mifflin.

First responders were called to Midway Drive around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday and found two male teens who’d been shot. They were taken to area hospitals, one in critical condition and one in stable condition.

Following an investigation, county police charged Matthew Hooper, 17, of Duquesne, and Kevin Johnson Jr., 15, of West Mifflin as adults in connection with the shooting.

Police said they exchanged gunfire, wounding each other.

Both are charged with aggravated assault, carrying an unlicensed gun and possession of a firearm by a minor, according to court records. Johnson is additionally charged with tampering with/fabricating evidence.

Both teens were unable to post bond and were taken to the Allegheny County Jail. An Aug. 9 preliminary hearing is scheduled in Pittsburgh Municipal Court.
