Paula Lynn Templeton passed peacefully early Saturday morning after a brief illness. She was 88 years old. Until a month ago, even into this new year, Polly lived happily in her cherished Ben Avon home (of 85 years), and was out and about town on her usual rounds, marketing in Sewickley, banking on Liberty Avenue downtown, driving the Boulevard, dining out, attending church and visiting with friends and family on the street and in their homes. Until one year ago, Polly was doing many of these things with her twin sister, Patty, her best friend and close, lifelong companion, who passed away almost exactly a year ago. Polly struck a fun and engaging presence. She was a sight: petite, smiling, pretty and, yes, the outfits, many one-of-a-kind, vividly colorful, high necked and broached, always skirted (never panted), often hatted, seasonally accented. She engaged and entertained with her couture, astrological and palm readings, handwriting analysis, and interesting take on history. Eccentrically, she didn't subscribe to the Internet, never owned a microwave or a computer. A small woman, she still had a remarkable appetite, but ahead of her times, subscribed to a healthy diet, eschewed chocolate, and insisted she'd never had a cup of coffee. She loved her 45-year-long career as a federal clerk of court, swearing in witnesses, working with judges and jurors and reading verdicts. She was mildly competitive, but mostly enjoyed her tennis, skiing, paddle tennis and brief scuba turn largely for fun and camaraderie. She was the family historian, a fountain of dates, unverifiable facts and photos. Above all, Polly was a most faithful daughter, sister, aunt and great-aunt. She was loved for her devotion to the Christian faith, to family and to friends. She is beloved. Polly was predeceased by her beloved father, Paul Stanley Templeton; mother, Florida Newby Templeton; her brother, Irvin Whitfield "Sonny" Templeton; twin sister, Patricia Templeton Whalen; and her niece, Malinda Whalen Newman. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Malachy Whalen; sister-in-law, Barbara Templeton; niece, Lynn Maloney; nephews, Paul Templeton, Rand Templeton, Clark Whalen and Claude Whalen; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. The family and friends will gather at a later date. Please leave all condolences at www.schellhaasfh.com.
