Fredrick "Frito" Gerald Brandt, 66, of Mount Pleasant Township, formerly of Youngwood, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024. He was born on Jan. 19, 1958, in Greensburg, the son of the late James and Wilma (Helman) Brandt. He was a graduate of Hempfield Area High School, Class of 1976, and a graduate of Slippery Rock University in 1982. Frito was a true outdoor enthusiast. He believed in protecting and giving back to nature. He worked as a Chesapeake Bay liaison specialist, a solid waste specialist, a water quality specialist, and finally a sewage planning specialist with the Department of Environmental Resources, and he retired with 25 years of service to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He was also a lifetime member of the Hecla Sportsman Club, the Hempfield Hunt Club, the Sportsman Association of Greensburg, the Youngwood Sportsmans Association, the Hempfield Pheasant Club, the Mosquito Creek Sportsmans Club in Frenchville, PA, and the Heath Township Sportsmans Club in Sigel, where he was the President for a few years. Frito also belonged to the A and B Club in Youngwood, the VFW Post 211 in Youngwood, the Brockway Sons of Italy and the East Huntingdon, Kecksburg, and Hecla Fireman's Clubs. If you couldn't reach Frito on the phone or he wasn't at home, there was a great chance he was at his beloved camp, "Big Oak." He always enjoyed being out in the woods, hunting, fishing, or standing around the fire, having a good time with his numerous friends. Frito is survived by his best friend, Trica Fritz; his faithful sidekick, his dog, Brandy Brandt; his siblings, Beth Dague (Bruce Jr.), of Bethlehem, Kate Gribbin, of Greensburg, James Brandt (Barbara), of Youngwood, and Becky Heffelfinger (Bill), of Greensburg. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, and nephews who he loved dearly. The family extends a special thank you to Frito's great friends, who were always there for him, John Koluder, Buzz Derco, Paul Robertson, Alan Crossland, Bob Olson, Gary Balog, Rich Thomas, and Howard Dunn.
