Smoke, a popular taqueria in Lawrenceville, is closing, according to a post on social media.

The Butler Street restaurant will close its doors on Sept. 16.

“A Huge THANK YOU to everyone who dug what we did,” a post on Instagram, signed Jeff, said. “We appreciate ALL of you! An Equally Large thanks to all of you who humped it at the shop on the daily — you all made the place Go. Finally, thanks to my family for their support of everything I’ve ever tried to do, no matter how ridiculous. I Love you guys!”

Owner chef Jeff Petruso and his partner, Nelda Carranco, first opened the restaurant in 2011 in Homestead and moved to Lawrenceville in 2016. The restaurant specialized in house-smoked meats on homemade tortillas, and in barbecue.

“The concept for Smoke came from our own love of barbecue and tacos,” Carranco, a Texas native, told TribLive in 2016.

Everything at Smoke is house-made, including ketchup, pickles, hot sauces, barbecue sauces, tortillas and even the sours and cola used in drinks.

The owners were not immediately available for comment on Sunday.
