Some people love the snow and some people hate it, but like it or not, we’re stuck with the fluffy white stuff for now. Here are a variety of events where you can enjoy — or escape — winter this weekend.
Mac Miller Tribute
The late Pittsburgh-born rapper Mac Miller would’ve turned 33 on Sunday. Thunderbird Cafe and Music Hall in Lawrenceville is holding a show in tribute to his birthday.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Sunday for an evening full of Miller’s music. Up first is a listening party for his album “Balloonerism,” which was just released posthumously by his estate on Friday. Following that, a live band tribute will perform some of Miller’s best songs.
Advance general admission tickets are $20. Proceeds from this show will benefit the Mac Miller Foundation. Attendees must be 18 years or older, or have a legal guardian present. To learn more and get tickets, visit thunderbirdmusichall.com.
PiratesFest
If you’re a baseball fan, the off-season probably feels very long by this time of year. PiratesFest is a chance to get your fix with a celebration of all things Pirates baseball on Saturday and Sunday.
General admission tickets are free. The event will include autograph sessions and Pirates meet-and-greets, carnival games, face painting, a bounce house, exclusive merchandise and visits from the Pirate Parrot and the Pierogi Race pierogies.
PiratesFest will be held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown. It’ll be open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Learn more at mlb.com/pirates/fans/piratesfest.
Black Power Rangers Comedy
Comedy touring group Black Power Rangers will come to make the audience at Art and Soul Cafe, Downtown, laugh on Friday night.
The group is a rotating lineup of Black comedians who bring social commentary, wit, culture and comedy to all of their dynamic performances. This tour stop will include several of the tour’s mainstay performers, including Wills Maxwell Jr., Brandi Roberts, Jarrod Fortune, Cordero Wilson and special guest Zivan Vazquez.

Is your kiddo obsessed with PAW Patrol? This new live adventure will be the perfect long weekend activity for you to share with them.
Held at the Benedum Center on Saturday and Sunday, the 75-minute show will be packed with action, music, interactive fun and an exciting new story for kids to fall in love with.
Four performances will be held, on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., all at the Benedum Center. For tickets, visit trustarts.org.
Dead of Winter Birding
For the adventurous birdwatcher, this event will offer an opportunity to explore Frick Park and observe a number of birds that populate the area at this time of year.
The event, which was organized by the Three Rivers Birding Club and will be headed by Mike Fialkovich, will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Frick Environmental Center, where the feeders are full and exciting birds can be spotted. Birders will explore the trails and see — or hear — birds including Carolina wrens, northern cardinals and song sparrows.
