It’s a busy weekend in Pittsburgh! With three days off to bask in the last of summer and football season right around the corner, the city has plenty of excitement and relaxation to offer. If you want to avoid the insanity of the North Shore, there are definitely other happenings to check out.

Spirit Summer Recess

Get ready to jam all day and into the night with this music festival from Spirit in Lawrenceville. The festival will be headlined by electronic musician Dan Deacon and will feature a wide swath of bands on two stages.

The event will also have tons of food options, plus vendors and artists from the area to connect and sell their wares. From 2 to 9 p.m., the party will be outdoors, and then it will move inside to Spirit for the 21+ continuation.

Tickets are available online in advance and also at the venue day-of, assuming they aren’t sold out. For tickets and a full list of musicians, vendors and artists, visit spiritpgh.com.

Dormont Pool Doggie Dip

Cap off the summer with your pupper at the Dormont Pool. On Monday, they will host a chance for dogs of all shapes and sizes to jump in and hang out as the pool season nears its close.

From 4 to 5 p.m., small dogs (30 pounds or lighter) will get their time in the water. Big doggies (60 pounds or heavier) get in from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. But in between it’s a furry free-for-all; all dogs swim from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.

Registration ahead of time is $20 per dog per session, $30 day-0f if space is still available. Dive in at boro.dormont.pa.us.

Jam at Grandview

After getting your fill of soul food, head up to Mt. Washington for the last of this year’s Jam on Grandview free concert series. The show will take place on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Grandview Park Bandstand.

This week’s act will be SamJAMwich. In addition to some rockin’ music, attendees can enjoy a selection of local beers, ales, ciders and wines, plus the beautiful backdrop of the Pittsburgh skyline.
