Library mini golf

The Monroeville Public Library will host a miniature golf fundraiser that will turn the library itself into the golf course on Feb. 22, with sessions for all ages and for adults.

The all-ages session will take place from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Tickets are $5. Children under 3 are admitted free. Food and beverages will be available to purchase.

An adults-only session for those 21 and older will be from 6-9:45 p.m. Tickets are $35 an include unlimited play and complimentary food and beverages. Raffles and 50/50 tickets will also be available to purchase.

Ladies society meeting

The Plum Area Ladies Society will hold their monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Plum Community Center at 499 Center New Texas Road.

There is no featured speaker. The program will see members creating Valentines for residents of the Concordia at Ridgewood senior community. Members should bring construction paper, markers, scissors, glue sticks and anything else needed to create a Valentine’s Day card.

The society is also undertaking a service project to bring ice cream and toppings to Concordia residents on Feb. 8 for an ice cream social. Sign-ups will take place at the Feb. 5 meeting.

And as always, the society is collecting paper products and cash donations for the Plum Food Pantry.

Buffet at Cross Roads church

Cross Roads Presbyterian Church will hold their annual Italian Buffet from 4 to 7 p.m. on March 8 in Fellowship Hall, located at 2310 Haymaker Road.

The all-you-can eat buffet will feature a variety of pastas, stuffed shells, salad, desserts and beverages.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $6 for children ages 4 to 12 and children aged 3 and under are free. All proceeds will go to the church’s mission fund.

Tickets can be purchased on Sundays at the church starting Feb. 2 or at the door the night of the buffet.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser

Monroeville Rotary and Divine Mercy Academy are hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the Lourdes Center cafeteria, located at 245 Azalea Drive.

Adult ticket are $10; kids are $8. Meals includes spaghetti and meatballs, rolls, side salad and beverages. All proceeds will go to Monroeville Rotary Youth Services and Divine Mercy Academy’s PTG.

Saturday colonoscopy appointments

The Allegheny Health Network will mark National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month by offering colonoscopy appointments on several Saturdays in March.

Appointments can be made for between 8 a.m. and noon March 22 at the Monroeville Surgery Center, 4121 Monroeville Boulevard.

‘Walk with a Doc’ planned

Allegheny Health Network will host a group walk with its physicians in a “Walk with a Doc” event this spring.

The free wellness program is designed to help promote healthy eating and an active lifestyle.

Forbes Family Medicine staff and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy will host “Walk with a Doc” at 5:30 p.m. March 11 and May 13. The group will meet at Monroeville Community Park West, 2399 Tilbrook Road.

Catholic Schools Week activities

Divine Mercy Academy will kick off Catholic Schools Week Jan. 27-31 with a student mass at 11 a.m. Jan. 26 at Christ the Divine Shepherd Church, 245 Azalea Drive in Monroeville.

An open house will from noon to 2 p.m. The event is for both prospective and current school families in grades pre-kindergarten through grade 8. Teachers will be available for families to meet and ask questions, while current families will offer school tours.

The halls will be decorated with student artwork and class projects.

Chorus seeks new members

The Monroeville Chorus is seeking new members. No audition is necessary.

The chorus performs for community events and groups, hospitals and similar functions. It meets for rehearsals at Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church, 1622 James St., Monroeville.

Bingo set at Divine Mercy

Divine Mercy Academy will hold a Valentine’s Super Bingo on Feb. 8 at Lourdes Center, 245 Azalea Drive. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. Early bird games start at 6:45 p.m. and regular bingo will begin immediately after.

Tickets include 10 regular games, three specials and a jackpot worth $1,000. Concessions will be available for purchase, and players may bring their own snacks and drinks. The event is BYOB and is for those 21 and older.

Order online before Feb. 1 to receive a bonus pack of specials. Pre-sale purchases end on Feb. 1; afterward, all remaining tickets will be sold at the door. Seating is limited and preassigned. When purchasing tickets, let DMA know who is in your party so you are seated together.

Upcoming library programs

The Monroeville Public Library will host the following programs:

• Space STEM and Our Solar System: 5:30 p.m. Feb. 5 for children ages 6-11 in kindergarten through grade 3. Children will make their own models of the solar system and learn about the phases of the moon using Oreo cookies. It is the first in a three-part series on space.

• Frederick Douglass’ Enduring Legacy: 7 p.m. Feb. 4 for ages 6 and older. Author and poet Gemma Stanley will discuss the relevance of abolitionist, writer and statesman Frederick Douglass in the modern day.

• Introduction to Cricut: 2 p.m. Feb. 6, for adults. Learn about the capabilities of the library’s cricut, a computer-driven tool that can cut paper, vinyl, fabric and more. There is a $5 fee, and participants will have a chance to create their own cricut craft.

• Djembe drum circle: 11 a.m. Feb. 8 for ages 6 and older. Join the Mitchell family’s Ijebi Drum Ensemble, formed in 1995, to learn and practice one of the musical traditions of West Africa.

Blood donors sought

The American Red Cross and Vitalant are encouraging prospective blood donors to participate in upcoming blood drives.

Donations of all blood types are crucial year-round, especially type O, the most frequently transfused blood type. O-negative blood can be given to patients of any blood type, while O-positive can help most patients.

Anti-litter award offered

Environmental nonprofit Keep America Beautiful is seeking entries from children in kindergarten through sixth grade for its Litter Hawk Youth Award Program.

Children are asked to complete a project sharing their hope, optimism and concerns about litter and inspire others through art, words or video.

The theme for the contest is “Join the Greatest American Cleanup! Show us how you can keep your community litter-free for America’s 250th birthday.”

Children in kindergarten through grade 4 can create a poster; those in grade 5 are asked to write an essay; and those in grade 6 can create a video.

The deadline to participate is Jan. 31. Winners will be announced in April as part of an awards ceremony at the state Capitol building in Harrisburg.
