Twins Trudy and Judy Milligan of Monroeville have been creating art since they were children.
“Our brother used to sit in the kitchen at the table and paint animals, and so we started doing a lot of that same thing,” said Judy Milligan.
The pair’s fondness for creativity hasn’t diminished over the years, despite putting it on the back burner as they set out on a career in hairdressing, opening Little Crickett Hair Salon in Monroeville.
“We got busy with our jobs and the hairdressing business, but a few years ago we joined the East Suburban Artists League and got back into it,” said Trudy Milligan.
The sisters’ work is on display through the end of June at ESAL’s rotating gallery in Murrysville Public Library.
Both Milligan sisters favor soft pastels as a medium and followed in their brother’s footsteps when it comes to subject matter.
“We do paintings of a lot of horses, dogs, cats, bears, fish,” Trudy said. “Horses are just so beautiful, and there are actually quite a lot of horses stabled here in Murrysville, which is part of why we wanted to feature them in our art.”
In addition, the sisters are donating 25% of the proceeds from any sales of their displayed work to the library.
“They recently remodeled the library, and where the ESAL gallery used to be a few panels, now there’s a whole wall with art hung on cables,” Judy said. “It looks very nice, and they have some chairs where people can sit and view the art.”
Trudy agreed.
“I think the library is very kind to have a place where local artists like us can show our work,” she said.
The ESAL gallery is in Murrysville Community Library, 4130 Sardis Road. For more, see ESALart. org.
