Regular operating hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The library is closed on Sundays.
Summer reading in full swing
The 2026 Summer Reading Program, with the theme of Unearth a Story, is in full swing.
There are challenges and prizes to be had for library patrons of all ages.
Children are encouraged to dig up a good story. Summer reading activity maps are available at the library. Maps also will be available at one of our community visits. Check out the library calendar to see where we will be this summer.
Adult participants have the chance to win the grand prize of a Kindle Paperwhite e-reader. They also can get an invitation to the all-ages end-of-summer Ice Cream Social. All you have to do is read at least one book.

Stop by and search for unclaimed property
Representatives of Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity’s office will be hosting an Unclaimed Property event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 14 at Monroeville Public Library.
Everyone is welcome to stop by and search for unclaimed property, which could include old bank accounts, uncashed paychecks, insurance payments, rebates and more.

Emerald Celtic Trio to perform
The Emerald Celtic Trio will perform from 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 29 in the library.
The group — comprised of musicians Charles May (violin), Paula Tuttle (cello) and Tom Godfrey (guitar and flute) — will play music that features Celtic styles from Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
The three musicians have classical roots but play a variety of popular Celtic tunes. They often sprinkle their concerts with classical works by Haydn, Saint Saëns or Villa Lobos.

The eighth annual Library Fun Fest will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 22.
The event is open to library patrons of all ages.

CHILDREN (birth to age 11)
• Splash Day! (ages birth-11): 4 to 5 p.m. July 8. Stop by to cool off. Kiddie pools, water balloons, water tables and a sprinkler will be set up. The event is weather-dependent.
• Music with Grammy Sue (birth to age 5): 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 10. Grammy Sue takes us on a musical exploration and celebration. Bring requests for your favorite songs. No registration required.
• It’s Electric! STEM Series: Paper Circuits (ages 7-10): 4 to 5 p.m. July 21. Did you know you can create real, working electrical circuits with some copper tape and a battery? We’ll make incredible art that really lights up with paper circuits. Registration opens July 7.
• “Sleeping Beauty” with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre (ages 4-10): 2 to 3 p.m. July 21. Join us for an interactive story ballet program presented by Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre featuring the story of “Sleeping Beauty,” introduction to ballet technique and costumes from the performance help to bring the story to life. No registration required.
• Read to a Dog (birth to age 11): 10 to 11 a.m. July 15 and 29; 6 to 7 p.m. July 8 and 22. Do you want to practice your reading aloud skills or overcome a nervousness around dogs? The Alliance of Therapy Dogs is more than happy to help. Stop by the children’s room and say hello.
• Chopped! Kids Cooking Competition (ages 8-11): 4 to 5 p.m. July 22. Fans of the Food Network hit show “Chopped” are welcome to join us for a three-round cooking competition. You and your teammates — assigned randomly — will be given baskets of five mystery ingredients, and you will need to think creatively to create show-stopping dishes. No heat sources will be used to cook. Participants must disclose their food allergies with the organizer. Teams will be asked to sample their dishes, so any and all food allergies must be disclosed. Registration opens July 8.
• “Stray Kids: The DominATE Experience” (kids): 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 31. Join us for a showing of this epic concert film after hours at the library. It documents the global K-pop sensation Stray Kids’ sold-out SoFi Stadium performances, along with behind-the-scenes footage. Register at monroevillelibrary.org. Any attendee younger than 18 must have a parent or guardian with them.
• Fireflies with the Allegheny County Park Rangers (grades K-3): 1 to 2 p.m. Aug. 6. Do you love seeing fireflies on a warm summer night? Have you ever wanted to see a park ranger dressed up as a giant lightning bug? Come learn how these fascinating bugs light up and we’ll also talk about how to protect fireflies, which are unfortunately under threat. Registration will open July 23.
TEENS (grades 6-12)
• Teen Movie Screening — “Shrek” and Waffles: 5 to 7:30 p.m. July 23. Join us for a movie paired with awesome snacks. Registration is required.
• Teen Junk Journaling: 4 to 5:30 p.m. July 30. Using magazines, book pages, stickers, scrapbook paper and other found materials, teens will create unique journal pages filled with art, memories and inspiration. No artistic experience is required, just bring your imagination and enjoy a relaxing afternoon of crafting. No registration is required.
ADULTS
• Crochet Club (teens and adults): 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 16. Do you like to crochet? Get together with other crocheters to work on projects, chat about your craft and have a good time. No instruction is provided. This is solely for crocheters to gather and work on their craft. Registration is required.
• Other Things You May Not Know about Wellness (teens and adults): 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 20. Wellness isn’t easy. Many people might often think of the EE concept of wellness: exercise and eating (nutrition). However, other elements, such as social wellness, can add to our life satisfaction. Dr. John McCarthy, an international educator, author, and lecturer in psychology, will discuss a general model of wellness and look more closely at the World Happiness Report while sharing some recent findings.
ALL AGES
• “Pittsburgh’s Historic Stadiums and Arenas” (ages 6 through adult): 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 9. From the earliest pro football and hockey teams to groundbreaking facilities like Duquesne Garden and the Civic Arena, Pittsburgh often has led the way in sports. Join local historian and author Mark Fatla as he guides attendees through that history with dozens of historic images and an engaging lecture.
• Craft Program: Floral Lazy Susan (school age through adults): 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 23. Join us to make a beautiful, floral Lazy Susan that you can use in your home or hang as a decoration. Materials will be provided; just bring your creativity and imagination. The program will be led by Cathie Vallas-McKinzie, who has owned Reflections from the “C” for the past 14 years. The jewelry and recycled art business uses mixed media to create artistic pieces. Registration is required.
