Franklin Regional was well-represented on the PA Big 5/6 all-conference football team this fall.
Five players earned first-team recognition — junior center Troy Slezak, senior running back Kyle Dupill, senior kicker Joey Bayne, senior defensive end Macallister Bresnahan and sophomore defensive tackle Andrew Devola.
Senior guard Hunter Reinhart, senior athlete Chase Lemke, sophomore linebacker Austin Kerns, junior defensive back Matt Moore and senior athlete Heath Sliva earned second-team honors.
Franklin Regional finished 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the Class 5A Big East Conference.
The Panthers defeated North Hills, 17-16, in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs before falling to Pine-Richland, 42-0, in the quarterfinals.
Soccer all-stars
Franklin Regional’s Danny Christafano and Jovan Sankoorikal were selected to play for the Class 3A team in the Western Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association boys all-star games Nov. 30 at Pine-Richland.
The first game features Class A vs Class 2A all-stars at 11 a.m., followed by Class 3A vs. 4A at 1 p.m.
Hockey team moves to 4-3
Tyler Spears and Max Williams scored first-period goals and Franklin Regional made the lead stand up in a 2-1 victory over Peters Township in PIHL Class 3A hockey on Nov. 19.
Ashton Rothrauff made 13 saves for Franklin Regional (4-3).
Recruiting
• Senior Nick Renda of Franklin Regional will play lacrosse at Marietta.
• Franklin Regional senior Carson Burgh will play volleyball at Point Park.
• Franklin Regional senior Ingrid Varley will continue her lacrosse career at Rhodes College.

Here are some updates on local grads competing in college athletics:
Women’s soccer
Westminster: Senior midfielder Brooke Horvath (Franklin Regional) was named to the All-PAC First Team. A four-time all-conference player, Horvath had 11 goals and six assists this season for a team-leading 28 points.
She topped 100 career goals. Horvath had 39 goals and 28 assists in her career.
Men’s soccer
Grove City: Sophomore defender Jake Kimmich (Franklin Regional) was an All-PAC honorable mention selection.
He made 18 starts and helped the Wolverines post nine shutouts, five in conference play.
Penn State Behrend: Senior forward Blake Cooper (Franklin Regional) was named to the All-AMCC First Team. Cooper led the Lions with 10 goals and 22 points.
Men’s basketball
Cal (Pa.): Senior forward Kadyn Hannah (Franklin Regional) has started three games for the Vulcans and has a 7.7-point average and is shooting 50% from the field. Hannah had 11 points in 23 minutes against Glenville State.
Westmoreland County Community College: Colin Masten (Franklin Regional) had 11 points as the Wolfpack defeated Penn Highlands, 79-71, to snap a 13-game losing streak.
Women’s basketball
Pitt-Greensburg: Sophomore Sarah Penrod (Franklin Regional) scored a career-high 24 points as UPG fell to Muskingum, 85-74.
