This week, a Transitions Healthcare North Huntingdon hosted a joyous celebration honoring Dorothy Nagy - beloved member of the community who will mark her centennial milestone on March 31st, 2024.

A native of Westmoreland County and a longtime resident of Irwin, Dorothy was pleasantly surprised by the gathering in her honor. "I knew I had a birthday, but I didn't know everyone was coming to celebrate it," she remarked, reflecting on her remarkable century of life. "100 years is a long time."

The birthday festivities were organized by the administration and direct care staff at Transitions Healthcare North Huntingdon, where Dorothy currently resides. Renee Canady, the Activities Director, expressed admiration for Dorothy's vitality and zest for life. "She's just amazing and still does so many things," Renee noted. "She's active and quite the character."

Dorothy remains enthusiastically engaged in community activities, including pet therapy visits, watching action movies, and participating in Wii bowling. Her favorite indulgences include meatloaf, the color purple, and the Christmas holiday. With a mischievous twinkle in her eye, Dorothy humorously remarked, "the key to a long life is men!"

Outside of community activities, Dorothy's hobbies include embroidering as well as a deep love for dogs. Throughout her long life, she devoted herself to homemaking and her children, raising both a daughter and a son with love and dedication.

As the festivities concluded, there was an overwhelming sense of gratitude and admiration for Dorothy's resilience, warmth, and enduring spirit. "I sure don't feel like 100!" Dorothy exclaimed. "I feel like I can make it to 200!"

Family, friends, and staff at her birthday celebration took the opportunity to reminisce about their fondest memories with Dorothy and the invaluable lessons they've learned from her remarkable journey. Happy 100th Birthday, Dorothy! Your presence is a gift to us all!
