A specific blend of gasoline is available for $2 less per gallon than the current average gas price in the Pittsburgh area.

Sheetz is offering E85 for $1.85 through midnight April 30. The current average for regular unleaded in the Pittsburgh area is about $3.85 per gallon, according to AAA.

E85, a type of flex fuel, is approved for use only in flexible fuel vehicles designed to run on gasoline or gasoline-ethanol blends of up to 85% ethanol. Drivers should check their vehicle owner’s manual to see whether their car is able to run with E85, or use this website to check.

Flexible fuel vehicles can use regular gasoline, E15 or E85. When available, Sheetz says, E85 is clearly designated as a different fuel type that should not be used in standard vehicles.

Sheetz introduced E85 to the Western Pennsylvania market in 2006. The current promotional price is less than it was being sold then — about $2.20 at a station in Monroeville.

The fuel is offered at more than 375 Sheetz locations throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina. The price reduction is available at all locations that sell E85, the company said.

Customers can check whether a Sheetz location sells the fuel through the Sheetz app or website.

Established in Altoona in 1952, Sheetz has more than 24,000 employees and operates more than 670 stores.
