Elizabeth Warner will continue to serve as North Allegheny School Board president for another year, after being unanimously approved by her colleagues at the Dec. 4 reorganization meeting.
Paige Hardy will continue as vice president, after a 5 to 3 vote.
School board director Michael Weniger was also nominated for the vice president seat by fellow director Richard McClure.
Blackburn, McClure and Weniger voted in favor of Weniger. Votes from Hardy, Warner, Dr. Robert Gibbs, Dr. Anisha Shaw and Leslie Britton Dozier won the seat for Hardy.
Dr. Vidya Szymkowiak was not present at the meeting.
The reorganization meeting occurs every December. The board president and vice president commented on their re-election.
“It has been an honor to serve in this role for the last year. It’s also been a learning experience for me,” Warner said.
Warner acknowledged the hard work of the 10 directors, particularly noting their collaboration on assisting with the creation of the new comprehensive and strategic plan, which will guide district decisions from 2024 to 2029.
“Developing that plan and the associated balanced scorecard was a time-consuming process that required listening with respect to opposing views and compromise. We should all be proud of what we accomplished,” Warner said.
She said that board leadership is open to communication and open to suggestions for improvement.
Hardy also offered thanks to her colleagues, adding “I will do my very best to serve you with the best of my abilities.”
Board members were assigned to various district committees and reports, mostly staying the same as present. That included voting in representatives to the A.W. Beattie Career Center, who will continue to be Blackburn and Warner.
This year’s meeting was preceded by entertainment from the students who performed in the high and middle school musicals.
The terms of several board members will end December 2025: Dozier, Hardy, McClure and Szymkowiak.
Terms until December 2027 are Blackburn, Gibbs, Shah, Warner and Weniger.
