Bradford Woods fills commission posts
Bradford Woods Council voted unanimously to appoint its members and others to borough commissions and local posts during its Jan. 13 meeting.
• Vince Cannella will serve as the borough’s emergency management coordinator.
• Kevin Rhule will serve on the Planning Commission.
• Rich Andrus and Susie Rhule also will serve on the Planning Commission for a four-year term.
• Christopher Mansfield will serve on the Environmental and Parks Advisory Committee.
• Dan Dimond will serve as Bradfood Woods’ representative on the Northern Regional Police Advisory Board. Doug Marsico and Victoria Pongrace will serve as alternates for that position.
• Scott Frank will serve on the Zoning Hearing Board for a three-year term.
• Tony Muhlenkamp will serve on the Vacancy Board for a one-year term.
• Michael Kelly will serve as the borough representative to the North Hills Council of Governments. Victoria Pongrace will serve as the alternate for that position.
• Kelly will serve as the Bradford Woods representative to the Allegheny County Boroughs Association. Doug Marsico will serve as the alternate for that position.
Garden club to explore ‘Women in Conservation’
The Longvue Acres Garden Club is hosting a free program titled “Women in Conservation” on Jan. 28.
eaglan McManus, an Allegheny County Parks ranger, will highlight the stories of Rachel Carson, Mary Flinn Lawrence and other women whose legacies shaped our county parks and contributed to the modern environmental and conservation movements.
The program begins at 7:45 p.m. in Northmont United Presbyterian Church, 8169 Perry Highway, McCandless.
Educational programs take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month and are open to the public.

La Roche plans Presidents Day events for prospective students
This Presidents Day — Feb. 17 — La Roche University, 9000 Babcock Blvd., invites high school and transfer students to experience its campus life. All visitors will earn a $1,000 tuition grant.
Students can choose from a variety of interactive events, campus tours and opportunities to connect with faculty and current students. Guided tours will be offered from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Participants also will be able to meet with admissions counselors during that time.
• Criminal Justice Visit Day, 12:30 to 3 p.m.: For those interested in Criminal Justice and Criminology, National Security Studies or Cybersecurity & Forensics. Participants will get a behind-the-scenes look at how the majors combine law, information technology and computer science. There will be hands-on activities, a campus tour and an insider’s perspective from faculty members.
• Meet Design Film Day, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.: For those interested in Film, Graphic Design or Interior & Architecture Design. Participants will participate in a hands-on design or film project, hear from current students and faculty, and learn about opportunities in those industries. Space is limited, and priority will be given to high school juniors and seniors.
