She was born Aug. 25, 1930, in Perryopolis, while her family was visiting grandparents in Layton. Joan was the daughter of the late Milton E. and Irene Layton Young, of Hampton Township. She retired in 1988 after 26 years with Koppers Company Inc., first at the Koppers Company Research Center and then later from the Strategic Planning Department in Pittsburgh. She was also employed from 1989-1999 by Westinghouse Electric Co. in various divisions. She was a former docent at Hartwood Acres, volunteered at Forbes Hospital and The Presbyterian Home in Oakmont. Her husband, James Edward Dolan, of 58 years, passed away in 2010. Also predeceasing her was their son, Kevin James, who passed away in 2000. It was God who was there to raise Joan's soul and the angels took her home. Interment will be private at the Arlington National Cemetery with her husband, James and her son, Kevin. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to THOMAS M. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Blawnox. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to her church, Monroeville Christian Church, 3780 Northern Pike, Monroeville, PA 15146.
