1 injured in shooting in Penn Hills

One person was injured in a shooting Wednesday morning in Penn Hills, according to police.

Penn Hills officers were dispatched at about 1:30 p.m. to the 400 block of Arbor Lane, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.

Police said they found a 23-year-old individual with a gunshot wound in the leg. The victim was was transported to the hospital, their condition was unclear Wednesday morning.

Penn Hills police Chief Ronald Como was not immediately available for comment.


Fayette County schools on remote schedule

A Fayette County school district switched over to remote learning Wednesday after administrators learned of a “possible threat” at the district’s high school.

Brownsville Area School District received a Safe2Say Something report about the threat at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Superintendent Keith Hartbauer, in a letter to parents posted to the district’s website.

The district went to remote instruction because it didn’t have enough information to determine if the threat was valid, Hartbauer said.

Redstone police and Pennsylvania State Police were notified about the threat, the district said.

Brownsville Area High School boasts about 450 students in grades nine through 12, according to U.S. News and World Report. It is located near a bend in the Monongahela River, about 19 miles south of Monessen, Westmoreland County.

Safe2Say Something is a youth violence prevention program run by the state Attorney General’s office. It teaches students and parents to recognize warning signs and signals of potential, especially within social media, “before it is too late.”


Water main break closes McCandless road

A water main break Wednesday morning shut down part of a road in McCandless.

TribLive news partner WTAE reported that the break occurred at about 5 a.m. and forced the closure of Thompson Run Road, between Hazlett and Pin Oak roads.

Crews had turned off the water within about 30 minutes.

It was not immediately clear how long the road would be closed.
