Happy Easter! But even if you don’t celebrate, it’s still a great weekend to buy too much chocolate, eat too many jelly beans and put that sugar high to good use with these Pittsburgh-area events.

Eggstravaganza at the Aviary

Kids of all ages can take part in this seasonal event that’s included with the price of admission to the National Aviary on the North Side.

The Eggstravaganza is held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with plenty of activities and surprises in store.

An egg-themed scavenger hunt through the Aviary’s many habitats is included, along with photos with the Easter Bunny, games, crafts, a talk from an expert about the science of eggs and egg trivia.

Some activities begin at 10:30 a.m. each day, but the main Eggstravaganza Fun Zone in the Learning Center starts at 11 a.m. both days.

Poetry Unplugged

The August Wilson African American Cultural Center in Downtown Pittsburgh will have its annual “Poetry Unplugged: Always August” event on Friday night.

The event features a bill of spoken-word artists, including The Last Poets, Queen Sheba, Jasmine Mans, Black Chakra and more. The event also features two local visual artists — Morgan Overton and Marlon Gist — who will live paint portraits of Pittsburgh great playwright August Wilson throughout the evening. The works will then be auctioned.

Blasey Does Bowie

Clarks frontman Scott Blasey — along with a backup band of other local musicians — will pay tribute to glam rocker David Bowie on Saturday.

“Blasey Does Bowie” is an evening of classic hits by the late singer-songwriter at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale.

The Tiny Wars are the show’s opening act.

1990s Music Trivia

Still listen to Nirvana, TLC, No Doubt, Notorious B.I.G. and all the other artists from the 1990s? Then it’s time to put your brain to the test, with a night of trivia.

The Inner Groove Brewing location in Pittsburgh’s Allentown neighborhood is hosting a Friday-night ’90s music trivia event.

Covering a wide range of genres — from rock to punk to hip-hop to R&B — this trivia night is built for those of us who still rock flannel shirts and Walkmans. The most knowledgeable players will get some great prizes.

Alonzo Bodden

Longtime stand-up comedian Alonzo Bodden is performing at the Pittsburgh Improv on Friday and Saturday.

Made famous by NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” Bodden is a touring comic who has multiple TV spots under his belt, including “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

He’s also a regular panelist on the NPR news game show “Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me!” and has released nine standup specials in various formats since 2001.

Shows at the Pittsburgh Improv in Homestead are at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and 6:30 and 9 p.m. Saturday.
