Ruth L. Cook Oshinsky, 89, of Pomona Park, Fla., died Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at home. She was born Feb. 14, 1934, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Melvin and Claretta (Griffiths) Lakin. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Jeannette, FOE No. 1671 in Irwin, AMVETS Post 8 of McKeesport and American Legion Post 257 Auxiliary of Stoystown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Cook; her second husband, Walter Oshinsky; longtime companion, Bill Irwin; a grandson, George Joseph Cook III; a granddaughter, Tiffany Nichole Alcorn; a great-grandchild, Jordan Cook; a son-in-law, Ross Piraino; two daughters-in-law, Wendy and Patricia Cook; a brother, Delbert Earl Lakin; and a sister, Evelyn Fiori. Ruth is survived by her children, Vicki Lynn Piraino, George Joseph Cook Jr. (Carol), Michael Earl Cook, Robert Alan Cook (fiancee Karen), Kathy Joanne Partsch (Terry) and Michelle Renee Cook; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Lakin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette.
